My Craft Corner

I was just curious if any of your Etsy Sellers or Buyers had any crazy habits or obsessions. My husband thinks I am crazed. My habits are, I have to check Web Analytics every morning and night..and actually, that in it's self is a horrible obsession. I almost love getting hearts more then a sale, and I am constantly checking to see if I am a treasury. Does this sounds like you? Or am I a lone Etsy Obsessed Crazy! :)

Oh...and one more thing...Shipping your sold item. Does anyone else obsess over the over all packaging and presentation of your creation before it's shipped out?

I would love to hear I am not alone! haha!

I am new to Etsy just since the end of July. I have not made any sales but I check google analytics at least once a day. I cant wait to see what its like to have a sale and ship something. I seem to favorite every site I visit, there are so many fun items. i want them all

I am obsessed with packaging too, but as I have been ordering from other sellers, I have felt much better about my packaging. I spend almost as much time as some of the stuff I make!

My biggest obsession is the "etsy success" newsletter. I click on every single link and all of the links within those links, I have a method about it too, I HAVE to click a link everytime I open my email, and I have to keep clicking until I find one that I can apply, then apply it.

Analytics is a great way for me to procrastinate on the stuff I shoiuld actually be doing physically, like taking pictures or, you know, sewing some crafts! Then there is the time I spend here... :)

Yes. The packaging can be a full day for me sometimes. I basically gift wrap my creatures in gift bags with my banner on it, stuff it with glittery paper, tissue, star confetti, ribbons a thank you cards and sometimes a certificate of authentication. And once everything is in the box I'll either gift wrap the outside of the box or spray it with canned glitter dust. But so far the effort is worth it. Not only do I get amazing feedback, but I often get repeat customers.

One thing that struck me as neat was once I ordered some supplies from someone and they sent me a thank you card with custom bags of tea. Does anyone else give little thank you gifts? Do people expect this?

Oh, about analytics...Does anyone know if it counts your own traffic to your site. Because if not...there sure is someone in Victoria who lives on my store. lol.

Does anyone ever see multiple hits in one day on within a week from a refered site and wonder how and why? I swear I get like 10-20 visits a week from duststream.com, but I can't figure out. why. See!!!! I said I was obsessed! :)

I am with you! I wake up every morning and before I have my tea I check 10 different sites.
My Blog http://thecraftytortoise.blogspot.com/
My Etsy Store http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=6060612
My Google Analytics
My Twitter Craftytortoise
My Craft Corner
My Ravelry Craftytortoise
And My Artfire

Then I check for treasuries, and hearts, and my two emails. My husband calls it work.. We even have to shut down the computer when he gets home so I don't constantly check how many views my items are getting.

I check my hearts and view almost everyday. And I check to see if I made it to a treasury each day too. Seems like very few people will put plastic canvas items in a treasury so when I see that I made it in one, I'm a very HAPPY person.

I have started checking my Web Analytics as well... I mostly have sold PDF knitting patterns, but when I sold some stitch markers recently, I made them a special tin out of an old Altoids box for them to travel in. I love the Etsy success emails... sooo helpful.

I think if you enter your store by "My Etsy" then it doesn't count as a view... I guess a self view is sort of like an "own goal" in soccer!

Ok, craftytortoise, you are speaking my language! Emails, etsy, analytics, blog, twitter, facebook, my craft corner, etc...everyday all day!!!!

I have tried to track down the source of my "leads" on analytics before, I keep getting hits from a site in Israel in another language, and then I found I was linked to from a blog written by someone in Tel Aviv, but for the life of me, there is nothing referring to me or etsy on any of these or other refferring sites! I wish they had a flow path that took you directly from the initial source thru to the page click. On extrememly high traffic days, I have to ask myself "Is that the day I chcecked my own site about fifty times?"

None of the above..

When I first it got GA I used to check first thing every morning. Now I may do it once a week..It only tracks once a day, so checking more often than once a day is pointless. I used to sometimes look up the blogs and links to see what's going on, but rarely anymore. Hearts are pointless also unless they are a buyer.. Some people view it as a popularity contest. When I've been in Treasuries someone always has sent me an email.

I've only had a couple of sales but I tried to package them nicely... I enclose a pair of earrings with each sale. The important thing to me is to get it mailed out promptly..I made my first sale on 1KM yesterday...Need to send it out Monday.
