After seeing lots of interesting business names I started wondering: How did you name your business? Who helped you? Any business names you thought of then changed your mind about? Are you happy with how your business name is working out?

Stygian anything is awesome, especially darkness!

Ahh, well. I've been a mythology geek since I was a kid. Okay, I've been several kinds of geek since I was a kid. When I was first introduced to BBS systems in the early 90s I needed a handle. Since the boards I lurked on were mostly populated by other gamers, fantasy fans, SCA personalities. I went with Charon. Not a notorious name, and I'd figured because of it, not super-pretentious. When it came time last year to pick a name on Etsy for myself and the shop, well, Charon was taken, and I didn't want to add numbers or anything to it. Sticking with the Charon theme, I decided Stygian Chains was appropriate.

My name CcrJewelry came to be when I was trying to find a name that was not used on the internet already. There are so many jewelry shops out there that I decided to use my initials. It stands for Claudette Rahmer - Not telling what the other C stands for..:-)

Our name (Mello Stuff) is a combination of sibling names:
Mel = Melissa
Lo = Lori
St = Steve
uff = the sound of our spoiled German Shepherd when she's not getting attention.

People often think Mello is akin to Mellow and take us to be some kind of hippie shop.
Not so far off the mark, I suppose.
We love our name because it's an extension of each of us and creatively, it ties us all together

Good thread idea. It's nice to know the personal stories behind all these names.

My name is D. Dianne Davies, so Pieces of D was kind of obvious, but since I work with collage pieces and jewelry bits and other small pieces of paper, wood, metal, fabric, fiber, and what ever else I find or tear or cut in pieces... what else would I call it???? Although I do have an idea for another shop name, but that's a secret for now. ;)

Darth Sunshine is my nickname that my brother gave me. He and I are HUGE Star Wars fans (I know you're shocked). My brother is HILARIOUS--he makes me laugh like crazy. A few years ago he was telling me how if someone made him mad he was jokingly calling them Sith Lords (a Sith Lord is Darth Vader from Star Wars, or Darth Maul, etc). I was teasing him about SOMETHING (don't remember) and he said "That's IT, you are a Sith Lord!" and I retorted with "WhatEVAH! I'm the epitome of love and kindness!!!" and he said "Then you are Darth Sunshine!" omg it was the perfect comeback. We laughed SO HARD. It's perfect. If you knew me, you'd know is perfect because I love to laugh. I'm a professional laugher--I wish I got paid for how much I laugh. So this name has absolutely stuck.
Since it was my branding for everything else (I also play video games and it's my gamer name), it seemed only appropriate that Darth Sunshine be THE name for all of it--stamping, crafting, etsy, etc. I love it.

It has been a joy to learn about everyone's shop names! I wanted to include my craft in my shop name so that is how I got "Origami" (so original, I know!) and I got "ume" (which means plum blossom in Japanese) because when I lived in Japan, one of my favorite things to do was to take floral photography. My favorite flowers are plum blossoms so... :) It seems to be working out okay!
