After seeing lots of interesting business names I started wondering: How did you name your business? Who helped you? Any business names you thought of then changed your mind about? Are you happy with how your business name is working out?
My name comes from my email address that I created early last year after getting a divorce from my ex husband. The name is unique and people know me as that name everywhere online so I decided to use that as my branding since it was already there and it focuses on the several aspects of what I do (teaching and creating).
My etsy shop is named Little Somethings. Because that's what it's got. Everything I make is small, and they're the type of things that you'd give to someone and say, "Oh, it's just a little something."
Shallow Creek Crafts came from our farm name. Shallow Creek Farm.
My hubby & I live on a hobby farm which has two little creeks running parallel to each other. At one time I gave beginning horse back riding lesson and one of my clients asked my farm name. I replied I didn't really have one and she said it should be called Shallow Creek.
My business name is very, very simple: Vickinator's Buttons
My name is Vicky and during high school my friends and my art teacher nicknamed me "The Vickinator", so it sort of seemed like a fun nickname as I needed an alias/username for several websites.
I am a graphic designer but my main focus for my Etsy shop is making pinback buttons, so that's the focus that my business name takes.
My Etsy and ArtFire shop names are She's Chic Boutique and I chose this because almost everything in my shop is for a female. Most of my items are pink and if they're not they're still feminine. The boutique part came in because I love boutique's rather they be online or real shops and one day I hope to open my own store here in my hometown.
For 30+ years I was a professional musician in a band of all men. The guys gave me the nickname "Mzz Thang" and still to this day that's how people refer to me. I decided to name my company Fo-Shizzle Design Studios to stay in the main frame with my nickname. "Fo-Shizzle" means "For Sure", and that's the confidence we strive for in creating our jewelry for our clients.
I've always loved the idea of having a multi-word name that starts with the same letter or sound. I thought up the name by myself after deciding what message I wanted to send to my customers. I wanted to describe what I was selling in a sort of poetic way. It may be a bit dramatic, but it gets people's attention. I think with so many online sellers you have to stand out somehow. I tried starting a business about a year ago making custom jewelry boxes and the name was genius...until I tried to copyright it and found out someone else had already thought of it! I guess that's why this time around I wanted to think of something a little more complicated so no one else would have the name.
My business name is "Mama's Brand New Bag". I took it from 3 sources. My daughter always called me Mama, not Mom or Mommy,...who knows why? But it kinda stuck. So, I'm Mama and this is my brand new "bag" or thing that I do. The second reference is to Mother Earth...a different kind of Mama. I'd say about 90% of my crafting materials are from recyclables. So, this is Mother Earth's (Mama) new bag from old rags. The last reference is to James Brown's "Papa's got a Brand New Bag." I took my name as a slant on the song title because it would be something familiar to some of the population. Oh, I make purses, so they really are "brand new bags." I also wrote a poem which I display on my table at craft shows.
Some people call me Mama and this is my brand new bag.
I make things by recycling, 'cause garbage is a drag.
My materials are not perfect, tiny flaws are sometimes seen.
But carry your bag proudly, and tell your friends you're green.
My business name is The Crafty Tortoise. There are actually 2 reasons I decided to go with the name.. 1. I LOVE anything that has to do with turtles and tortoises. 2. It sometimes takes me a really long time to finish projects. I am getting better now, but sometimes i will start projects and if they are not going how i think they should i just put them away and start on them later.
I also looked into calling it The Crafty Turtle... but it didn't roll off your tongue as well.
I loved reading how everyone came upon their name. Mine has several meanings. Beck is my grandmother's maiden name and lee is mine and many other middles names of family also the picture is of a little beck or stream in western England and lee also means shelter. I thought it had a nice ring to it but it is confusing as to what craft i sell becklee Cottages hummm does she sell cottages? too late now with cards etc printed up.
My business name is a combination of where I live and what I make. "Colorado Catnip Toys". I live in Cortez, Colorado and make organic catnip toys. When I first started my business, I only made catnip toys, not thinking I would ever add other products. Well, since then I have added kitty quilts and catnip mats to my line up. I recently added another shop on Etsy for dogs. I decided to take some of my kitty quilts that had been in that shop for months and swap them to the dog shop. The only difference in the quilts is, the kitty quilt has a catnip toy attached by a large button. I just took the button and toy off and the quilt instantly became a dog quilt. This way I reach a different clientel with basically the same product.
I am a faux finish painter. When I took my painting class a dozen years ago, the teacher impressed on us the 'magic' of taking a plain wall and making it look like something else. After much consideration I chose 'Illusions by Donna' as my painting business name.
While on an extended trip painting for a friend in Maine I learned to knit. Last winter when setting up my Etsy shop I wanted to use the name Donna Knits, but it was taken. So I used Donknits which I have never liked. I didn't know anything about 'Branding' at that time. So when I opened the Artfire and 1KM shops I went back to Illusions for my name..I still think about closing up Donknits and reopening under some form of Illusions but that seems like such a hassle!!
