My Craft Corner

I can't count how many crafters I meet whose story starts with, " When I decided to stay home with my kids..." Craft explosion! That's what happened to me too. It is so gratifying to craft when doing the all important work of raising kids, and it makes me feel like I am still contributing to society.

Who thinks the resurgence of the SAHM parallels with the Craft resurgence? How do you balance it all?

I'm a SAHM that runs her business. Balancing?! What's that?! I'm just now starting to try to do that but it's really hard having a 1 1/2 year old who feels he requires ALL of my attention from the time he wakes till the time he sleeps!
So i normally just end up doing daily activities with him during the day, talking walks... Noggin.... lunch.... YoGabba Gabba....nap...... coloring and whatever his little heart desires..... then his old brother and sister are home from school so he follows them around until dinner, we eat then he starts to wind down but not completely till 10pm...
Then that's when i'm able to work. Since I make soap I can't just stop and go stop and go and ihave to be able to go at a steady pace and at night is my only time to do it.....
But it pays off in the end b/c i'm able to be home with my kids and bring in extra money :-)

You had me at Yo Gabba Gabba! when I was reading your post, I had to stop and think, "Did I write this?" lol! I am lucky that my little guy (16months) gets in one or two naps a day, that's when I get stuff done, but that "stuff" includes housework and all the other miscellany of running a house! My biggest problem is getting the straight shot of time also, I have to unpack and lay out my project and then pack it all up, so sometimes I only actually sew for twenty minutes! (Can't leave scissors, needles and pins out, I almost have to get a lock, since he has learned to open my tacklebox! (I mean, my fancy scmancy sewing kit that I didn't get at a hardware store :D ) I am also due with #2 in 8 weeks, so I can't wait to see how that changes my crafty schedule! Oh dear.
Your soaps are beautiful, and I would love to take a bath with one of your cupcakes!

I started crafting when I was pregnant i finished more than 20 cross stitch projects, then making beads jewelries and card making. A friend of mine suggested why not selling online so i did plus caring my family is a lot of things to do. I enjoyed it while staying at home. I also blog which earn a little. Being a SAHM is amazing!

I'm not sure about balancing either! I know for me, my craft tends to take a back seat to everything else. The kids, hubs and the house come first, plus we run 2 other businesses from our home. I have been trying to make more time for my crafting throughout the day and in the evening and that's been working out well. I love being home and having the opportunity to have a business as well as exercise my creative side.

I have been enjoying reading these comments and knowing I am not alone! I really need a kick in the pants lately, I have been very lazy! I need to post some items on etsy, and I have so many new projects I am collecting! Curtains for my baby room, Halloween Costumes, (I have already bought the fabrics for these projects!) Not to mention I have to finish up some crafts to be sold next month at a show!
I am blaming everything on my pregnancy, I am due in 6 weeks. But let's be honest here, the baby is NOT out yet (well, the 16 monhth old is running around), and I feel fine! I really better get cracking!
Juast came here to vent and I always feel that the first step against procrastinating is admitting you have a problem, publicly, and then doing something about it because you're embarrassed!

I'm a SAHM who crafts. When my kids were small I only made a few things for my family like Halloween costumes. My kids are in middle school and high school now so just this year I have turned crafting into a business. It's not so hard once the kids are older. Just think StarsandRobots, only 12 more years before you can craft in peace! (I'm sure it will come sooner than that.)

Oh Bloomfield Beads! That one really made me laugh outloud! I see the future and it looks so bright! (I just was awaken from a very deep Mommy nap by the 16 month old who decided he only needed 20 minutes this time!)

I am also a stay at home mom. I started getting back into crafts when I went on maternity leave with my son. I love to sew, for me it is like therapy. It's so much fun to get inspired by different fabrics and materials and now that I have discovered Etsy I have somewhere to sell them!

I had barely any crafting intuition before I had my first son, now after three kids, I can't stop!!! I love to fill my nap times and after bed times with little projects, so much more productive than TV!!!
