My Craft Corner

Caught in those end of winter doldrums? I'm hearing it from a lot of members lately! We all need a pep-talk sometimes, hints and idea about how to get motiviated again when we lose our mojo.. even if its something we love doing (yes, I'm talking about crafting!). So, how about a little help for those of us who need to get some work done, who can't wait around for spring to come and finally re-inliven us! All motivational ideas gladly accepted! (Oh, and just to motivate you to motivate others... I'm adding an additional 30 extra entries in our Meet and Greet (and Motivate) Giveaway to anyone who responds!)

I'm looking at seed catalogs. Inspires me to make flower items and plan my garden because spring will come!!

I definitely feel the winter blues! To help motivate myself I just signed up for a March craft show to keep my creating. I also have just started to stock up on supplies again. New supplies always help me to get excited again. Lastly I have also organized my space, which makes it more enjoyable to be crafting.

I like to get organized. Scratches an itch for me. Get all my completed inventory catalogued, photographed, and packaged up. I'm also doing a lot of the simple repetitive bracelet designs while sitting in front of the Olympics on TV. Would also like to do another indoor craft event if I can find one. Helps to meet other artisans and exchange ideas and frustrations. So if any of you have craft show ideas or venues in the Twin Cities (Mpls/St. Paul) drop me a message.

I'm with ZViolet in that I love to garden, too. At this time of year, I try to remind myself that now is the best time to get lots of work done. When the warm weather finally shows up (I'm in the Chicagoland area, so it won't be here for a while yet) I'll have more time to garden and have fun outside if I get lots of stuff done now.

Personally, sometimes all it takes is walking through (and of course purchase some items from) JoAnn's. Another great thing that works for me is to be around my friends/family that craft. I've thought about having a 'crafting party' in my home for my close friends and family members... where anything goes... bring whatever you're working on, or ideas to share.

I also have multiple crafting hobbies that I don't sell. For example, I learned how to knit this summer, and I spend a lot of time doing that with treats for myself and family members. :)

Nothing is more motivating than getting a sale. Every time it revs me up again. Thinking of fresh ideas for spring also helps, new colors and materials spark motivation. This is my latest offering for the season.

Best way I know to get motivated is to look at the house and know it needs vacuming, then think about doing it, coz you know it has to be done and no-one else is going to do it for you.....then turn around and go to your studio/workspace and do some craft instead coz this is more fun anyway...and technically your still getting something done....once you start, your motivation moves into overdrive coz you've got all these new ideas for things to make........and its fun, you'll be back at it tomorrow as well so you can finish one and start the next.......finally at the end of the week you get around to doing the housework to, you want to be able to get back to your studio......this works for me everytime, I hate vacuming....lol....hope you all get motivated and enjoy your crafting.....looking forward to seeing all the new things everyone is working on...
Cheers

Tomorrow I'm trying out the PMC I got for Christmas, I've been a little nervous to try it but I'm just going to do it and hope it re-energizes my creativity.

What really Motivates me the most is knowing Spring will be here soon and I want to be out in it. So I try to get as much as I can done now while its freezing outside. Plus to add to another comment on this thread New supplies are always motivating and so is sales. Keeping New items in the shops attract buyers but also attracts old customers to come back to check out what you currently have. I got candle supplies in and just spent the entire weekend making a new line of scents Some of them include Spring time flowers. Not only shop members but your customers also have the winter blues. Give them some inspiration for the soon to come warmer, longer and brighter days. Get the inspiration and dress up your shop for the soon to come season. It might bring ya some sales. :) I hope this helps. I know this is what goes thru my mind when I just dont feel like doing anything. If I dont craft I cant sell, and if I was a customer what would I look for.

I like to clean out all my supplies and get organized. i've got stuff all over the place and it all needs to get back to it's place so I know what I've got. Most times I find things that I'd forgotten and I end up getting motivated again.

I try a totally new craft. I just tried silkscreening and it not only inspired me to make images it inspired my felting. Sometimes you just have to take yourself out of your comfort zone to see everything anew.
